Anyone interested in diving in Eastern Lake Erie - August 21st-22nd

Can you provide a time line of when you will be leaving and returning from the dives? If your just doing standard 2 tank dives on each day it opens the door for the Mrs. She gets sea sick and wont make it a full day on lake erie. Can you only do one of the days?

DOT Expiration date on early Tanks?

Ok, to limit there litigation they called it a voucher program. But seeing how luxfer offered $50 a cylinder, and I know dive shops that did simular items to help people buy new cylinders; to call it a "money grab" is just BS.

DOT Expiration date on early Tanks?

Seriously  Did I read that correctly? :shakehead: The last 6351 cylinders where made over 20 years ago now. Just ditch them already. They where recalled by the mfgr, many dive shops gave large discounts to customers buying new cylinders, and the DOT even changed the hydro test...

DOT Expiration date on early Tanks?

I don't think there is a DOT officer that will write you for transporting and using your own personal cylinder. That said, most people get there cylinders filled at a commercial place of busness and pay for that service. Because of this, the dive shop could get cited for filling an improper...

Maui shore dive recomendations for tomorrow?

There are a lot of good sites along the Wailea coast, but many are over dove IMHO. The best dives we found where the ones in the Marine Reserves, there harder to get to, don't have the facilities, but they don't allow any commercial activities. We really liked Ahihi cove. I think it is more...

Implications of the spring adjustment knob

I'm not aware of any reg that can claim to have laminar flow. Having an adjustment knob does not drive the overall design. Most designs incorperate an adjustment method.

Uses of the spring adjustment knob

The "venturi" switch does help prevent inadvertent free flows when the reg is not in your mouth. It does this by making a small restriction and causing a small pressure increase in the body of the regulator when it starts to flow. This pressure increase will close the seat. With no restriction...

Why is there no thread on a heat sink?

What is your phd in? If your talking about ribbing or threading the inside to try and warm the gas, that really is not the purpose of the heat sink. The goal of this design is to keep the seats warm enough to prevent ice formation. If the seats are above freezing they wont build ice and the...

    Boat motors through Dive site

I'm sure the same parks officers would write you a ticket real fast if you walked in without your float and flag.

    It's supposed to leak?!

Ok, and a lot of Lemmings jump off a cliff at the same time too, does not mean its the correct thing to do. I would talk to a local Parker distributer. They should be able to help you pick fittings that are made for what your using them for. Both in pressure range, flow rates, and service...

    It's supposed to leak?!

Why are they using hydraulic fittings for a pnumatic application? They make high pressure pnumatic fittings, which are designed for pnumatic operation and sealing. Also, there are different types and designs of QDs. Some are ment to seal only as a precaution measure to prevent a release of...

Thanks everyone, I think we will try for Jupiter. However, the Mrs seems to be getting sick :( oh well, at least we are having a good time at Disney with the family. Any suggestions for Manatee tours and or diving on Crystal River? At least with the Manatee snorkle you don't need to clear the...

    voodoo gas tank stickers?

Man, you guys a are rough, notice the quotes around "incorrect" In any event, does not matter if the shop is right or wrong, if they don't like the stickers they don't need to fill your cylinders. And there are shops that are hard over and you can have issues. Sorry for the full disclosure, I...

    Moisture in tanks; measuring humidity

Check the manufacture recommendations for operating temperature. To high of operating temperature will cause more oil loss and higher oil and CO levels in the compressed air. The absolute best way to keep filters efficient and lasting is to keep them cool. Having a cooler between the...

    Are viton o-rings really necessary?

No worries, didn't know how to read it. As in, to dumb, or to smart for that. I know you meant to smart ;) :poke:

    Are viton o-rings really necessary?

And what does that mean? I will second the shelf life, I don't know if its indefinite, but its a long time. When you buy a bag of 100 its nice to use them up. Even it the bag is only $10.
