    National Geographic Diving Certification

Check. Got that with my NAUI OWD course. No Check. Didn't get that with my NAUI OWD course. No Check. I got that by diving. Certainly not through my NAUI OWD course. No Check. I got that by diving. Certainly not through my NAUI OWD course. No Check. I got that by diving...

    Basic Scuba Equipment Cost

I could easly put together a cold water diving rig for $1500 without going the ebay route. Assuming cold water meant a 7mm and not a dry suit. In that case it'd be a little over $2k. You can get a reg, bc and nitrox computer for < 1k easy if you don't have to have what the "in-crowd" is...

Friends of ours try to get Certified..blow out eardrums!

Contrary to popular belief, ruptured eardrums are not that uncommon. Learning when not to descend is a hard lesson for some. Tell your friend to get a second opinion on not diving again. James

    Long Weekend in Cozumel Ideas

Caribe Blu is a good fit for your requirments. It's no frills but it is pretty and clean, on the channel, good beds, quiet with a great on site dive shop and shore diving. The price is right. Better how? The Palace is one of the nicer resorts on the island. It's much smaller than it's...

A regular diving day, what to bring?

If you are driving, I'd say this: Bring what you need to dive. Also bring whatever else you have that you think might help out if somthing goes wrong. Most importantly bring yourself. The more you go dive, the more you'll figure out exactly what you should bring. As for little things that...

    Coz Kittten needs formula!

You are going down in November???? When? I'll be there 5-12, if we overlap we HAVE to hook up. Same goes for me, Christi, as before. Misha will probably be on tuna and milk by then but if I can cart it down, let me know! James

A regular diving day, what to bring?

A lot of that depends on where you are diving. When I go on a trip, (a.k.a. flight) I bring only what I need. When I go to a local quarry I and am driving, I bring it all. Tanks, extra tanks, lead, extra lead, drysuit for deep, wetsuit for shallow, first aid kit, tool box, extra reg, etc...

    DM or Master Diver????

I'm all for technical training, there is a lot to be learned there. But. some people just want to dive warm blue water and are happy with that. Is there not avenue for them?

    DM or Master Diver????

Please remember that the term "stroke" has 2 meanings: 1. someone who does not follow a very ridgid set of rules 2. someone who is proud to be indepentant of that rigid set of rules. It's all in the capitalisation of the 'S'. Excellent point. When I was 17 and single I had a huge...

    DM or Master Diver????

The goal of tek diving courses is, like rec diving courses, to make the diving you are doing "less dangerous". Please give me an example of a non "tech" diving course that does not share that goal?

    DM or Master Diver????

Some people are too easy to predict. And yes, multple responses are good. That's why I say, pick the ones that align with your goals and don't get waded down in things like agency bashing or "you must dive a BW/Wing" etc. Find the people wo make sense to you and follow the lead. Don't get...

Presidente Press Release - They're Upgrading!

Me I tell whatever shop I've decided to stop in, usually one without a hagler out front that I want the: "I'm staying on here (again) price, not the "I just jumped off the latest cruse ship price." As for a hotel, I now know where to go to get a good deal, unless my senoria bonita want's AI...

Yea, there is some fun in that isn't there? At least until you can predict the players. James

    DM or Master Diver????

Good for you. I'm assuming you've done rescue. Was that fun or what? I know I loved my rescue class. When I took DM I did it for the education. I absolutly did not want to "work" as a diver. I said to myself, diving in the loclal shallow quarry over and over is not fun anymore, at least...

    DM or Master Diver????

Me too. If you went through 3 main level certs and 5 specialties to get your card, way to go. Now, explain to 10K+ dives what a SAC rate is and you might earn his respect.

    DM or Master Diver????

Among others. As mentioned, there are many ways to manage your gas without knowing your SAC rate. It's a tool, as are experience, the rule of thirds, etc. You don't have to take Deep or dive deep to be a master diver. Some people do thousands of dives and never go deep. I think it's well...
