    Great service from Oceanic

About a week or so ago, I sent an Oceanic suitcase back to get the wheels repaired but left my dive log in the front pocket. I just got an email about it: Now that make me happy. Makes my wife happy too since we'll probably spend that $81 windfall on a fancy dinner! :eyebrow:

    Florida in January conditions

    Florida in January conditions

I'm thinking about doing a week or so of diving in Florida this January, but a dive buddy told me that conditions in John Pennekamp park and all along the Keys are kind of iffy in the winter. Can anyone here confirm or deny this, or shed some light on the subject. Thanks, David

    DM protecting weight belts?

My wife used to be a divemaster, and I know bunches of them. You figure these folks make about 3 to 5 bucks a head. What's that work out to, about 50 cents per hour for helping you strap your gear in, find the site, brief and lead the dive, occasionally rescue someone, pick out and follow the...

    Unethical?

You people who think this isn't stealing, just another hunky dory under the counter, behind the owner's back, what he doesn't know won't hurt him deal, really need to get a clue.

    Love my Dive Rite

Yes, I do use it with singles and have no problem.

    Love my Dive Rite

    1. The backplate lets me take six pounds off my belt. 2. With those 6 pounds gone, I can dive the rivers and quarries around here with no weights at all. 3. My chest and sides are less cluttered without all that jacket stuff. 4. I have the straps adjusted perfectly : the BC doesn't sag...

What do you wear at Dutch Springs?

Nothing ... if you dive at night and stay close enough to the surface to prevent shrinkage :D

    Love my Dive Rite

I got a Dive Rite steel plate with 50 lb rec wings to replace my Seaquest ProQD about 6 months ago. My only regret is that the dive shop where I got certified 5 years ago didn't tell me all the benefits of backplates when I was buying my gear!

    Non-Leaking Dump Valve?

    Thanks! I appreciate the info.

    Non-Leaking Dump Valve?

My BC dump valve leaks water back in. It's either happening when I let air out and there's water bubbling in, or if I'm pulling the cord a little longer than necessary and water just sort of oozes into an empty BC. Do all dump valves do this? I thought they were supposed to be one-way...

    Dual Use UP Drysuit Undergarment

Last week, my 300g Polartec, two piece, all black, "Uncle Pug" drysuit undies got put to their first out-of-the-water test. It was 4 degrees Farenheit at my Dad's farm in western PA. That's the real temperature, NOT the wind chill factor. The old man lives on an always windy mountain top...

Just Starting - Help Wanted !

The dpreview site and other posts on this forum have a wealth of information. So much so that I'm getting "big menu" syndrome. (When you go to a restaurant with a really big menu and see tons of stuff you like, and it takes you forever to decide, and in the end you would have been just as...

    Da**ed Coral Killers!

We had a polite word with them after the dive, and just got silly smiles in return. That was our last boat dive, so I'm not sure what the crew did about it. I told one of my LDS buddies. (This guy's an ex-Navy SEAL and just loooooooves playing the panicked victim during the rescue classes.)...

Just Starting - Help Wanted !

Oh my gosh. I started reading about digital cameras with the expectation that they would be simpler than film! Boy, do I have a headache.

    New dive buddy prep

You and your new buddy should take a PADI scuba review together before going out into the big, bad ocean.

Just Starting - Help Wanted !

My wife and I have a Sea and Sea MX-5. It's ok for photographing mid-sized things at 2 to 5 feet but now we want something nicer. My biggest complaint about it is that I can never tell what I'm photographing. It has one of those plastic, flip up viewfinders. We're not pros by any stretch...

    Da**ed Coral Killers!

They'd been diving for years, so whatever they learned about bouyancy in their class had obviously been long forgotten. But hey, UP, my 300g polartec suit that got here just before Christmas sure is warm! David
