    SB'ers in Cozumel -- March

We had to cancel due to family illness. Advice for everyone: buy trip insurance! (even if you're planning last minute and positive nothing could happen before you leave)

We've always had better luck calling ahead, but remember you're on Mexican time.

    Newbie - First Dive

Cozumel is a beautiful dive location (as well as vacation spot), and not so bad for the "not-so-seasoned" divers, but I would seriously hesitate if you're not at the very least open water certified. We did our checkout dives in Cozumel, and it's a little disheartening to see everyone else...

    Mayan ruins tours from Cozumel

It looks like there are a couple of tours that start off at the Cozumel Ferry. Maybe you can still get in a (loooong) day trip. http://www.cancunvista.com/cozumel_tours_shore_excursions/chichenitza_deluxe.html $119 pp http://www.cozumel.net/tours/itza.htm by plane $249 pp $106 deluxe...

    silly hammock question

Thanks, everyone! I wasn't sure if someone was pulling my leg about the hooks. I never thought about using the hammocks to hang wet dive gear, but we've always had a room with a balcony. Too bad my dive gear takes up all my extra baggage space or I'd take my hammock for my afternoon siesta...

    silly hammock question

Last year I found out what those hooks in the walls are for...hammocks (or was someone pulling my leg), but maybe they are just in the place I stayed on Isla Mujeres. Now I'm wondering whether 1) those hammock hooks are found in the downtown hotels on Cozumel; 2) whether those hooks would...

    Mayan ruins tours from Cozumel

When are you going? This is also our 6th trip to the island (3/8-3/13), and since we've booked separately from our LDS this time, we also plan on exploring the mainland a bit.

    Safe Walk to Town

I'm an early morning walker and have gotten up with the sun on several mornings and have walked from as far as El Cid La Ceiba up to the northern blocks of the downtown area. I have never felt unsafe and I tend to be very cautious and aware of my surroundings. One year we visited during...

    SB'ers in Cozumel -- March

Amen to that! We love staying right on the square or within a block or two on the main drag. That's the place to be if you love to people watch. We've never done AI or a cruise, and don't plan on it until we're too old to read and walk.

    SB'ers in Cozumel -- March

Congratulations! We celebrated our 10th anniversary on our first trip to Cozumel, where we did our checkout dives with our LDS.

    SB'ers in Cozumel -- March

Isla Mujeres non diving trip report

Well, I suppose for entertainment, you can sit on the beach and watch the pod people come in off the party boats, get shuffled in to the beach restaurant, walk up and down the streets looking confused.... they are easily spotted by their harsh sunburns, braided hair, and glazed look on their...

    Last minute plans

Well to clarify, I never visited Coz 20 years ago, but I've heard how wonderful it was. I fell in love with her on my first trip in 2002. I didn't mean that she's anything less than wonderful right now! Thanks! It was awesome!!!!! Next time, I'm thinking two weeks - one on Isla Mujeres, and...

Isla Mujeres non diving trip report

Well, I went and I didn't get to go diving. El Norte had some powerful winds going, and I never made it over to Cozumel. I suppose I will be strung up by the dive community for saying this, but I have to say that in spite of being so close and not diving, I had an absolute blast and didn't...

    Last minute plans

You betcha! I'm sure I'll be twitching to be that close to Cozumel without setting foot on the island, but I have also heard from some of the people in our group that topside on Isla Mujeres is very much like Cozumel was 20 years ago, and since everyone seems to rave about how great Coz was 20...

    Last minute plans

Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to hear to make my decision. I'll hang out and enjoy Isla for Isla...maybe catch a dive while I'm there, and spend that extra time soaking up the sun.

    Last minute plans

So, my friend and I are flying in to Cancun first thing tomorrow morning, and will be staying on Isla Mujeres. I've been to Cozumel 4 times, and while my original stay in Isla Mujeres was only supposed to be 4 days, we decided to stay an extra day, so now I'm thinking about shuttling over to...

    laparoscopic surgery

One thing I didn't see listed on the thread about women's health issues and diving is laparoscopic surgery. I know with hysterectomy, and also with some types of gallbladder surgeries, part of the process entails blowing air into the body cavity being explored or worked on so that the surgeon...
