    An invaluable post

Excellent essay. There's been more than a few times I've called the dive because the conditions sucked and a couple times where I should have called the dive and am thankful I'm still here. #2 is precisely how me and Kathy dive now...if it's not going to be fun, why waste our time? Hell, one...

    Wet gloves for dry suit?

Well, I went to another dive center which I didn't notice on the list of dealers for 4th Element and got myself some 3mm gloves...pretty happy right now. Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. :)

    Wet gloves for dry suit?

Damn those look like some badass gloves. Too bad the only dealer of them nearby never carries them in stock...not sure how I feel about ordering gloves online blind without looking at 'em first.

    Wet gloves for dry suit?

What thickness are your wet gloves? Do you guys use a 3mm or 5mm or 7mm? That's kind of where I'm at too...I have a very thick DUI thermal which keeps my core nice and toasty warm, so I figure that will help keep my hands warm anyway. I don't want the hassle of dry gloves either.

    Wet gloves for dry suit?

Ok, so I'm just recently getting into dry suit diving, now that I have my own custom DUI suit. The issue I'm having over and over is that I have 5mm Pinnacle Kevlar gloves...these are the gauntlet kind. They just really don't fit that well with the wrist cuff seals. I also absolutely hate the...

    Log book

I log every dive. If nothing else, even if you don't provide a narrative for the dive, it's very helpful to log the conditions, equipment notes such as weight used, what type of tank, etc. If you don't remember how much weight you used with the 7mm versus the dry suit, no problem, it's in your...

    Diving conditions this weekend

Well, dived as safely as possible. I had a...number of issues on that dive yesterday, but I don't panic very easily, so it wasn't really a big deal. Kathy's making me take my 100 from now on until I get used to my dry suit. Transitioning from a wet suit to a dry suit is definitely not an easy...

    Diving conditions this weekend

Thanks for the info guys...sounds like its definitely diveable, just typical Monterey conditions. Guess I'm gonna have a late start thanks to my cat waking me up in the middle of the night. I'll hit the road after I consume a generous portion of coffee.

    Diving conditions this weekend

Ok, thanks for the responses guys...I was starting to doubt the NOAA marine forecast data, as it does seem like the wave models are more accurate. Looking forward to that trip report...and wishing I could ditch work on Monday, heh it looks fantastic then.

    Diving conditions this weekend

So normally the data is all in tune with each other, but for this weekend, the 3-day wave forecast doesn't look too bad for Sunday but the national marine forecast has a small craft advisory. Has anyone been diving in the last day or two? How did the conditions look? I haven't gone diving...

Need recommendations for dive op / location for January live aboard

We were limiting ourself to the Caribbean because ticket prices to the Pacific (we looked at Palau and Papua New Guinea) are enough to make me cry. The Caribbean at least is still close to $1,000 for ticket prices...Palau was $1,700. Can't afford that kind of air fare right now. We definitely...

Need recommendations for dive op / location for January live aboard

Ok, so me and my wife are planning our first live aboard, and the Aggressor fleet has a New Years' Special going on for the first week of January. I know that January is pretty iffy as far as weather, and I don't want to pay 6 grand or so for a trip and then get blown out, so what locations...

Is the P-valve really worth it?

You sir have issues. :rofl3: Ok, thanks...that's simple enough. Even a guy like me can handle that.

Is the P-valve really worth it?

That brings to mind a good question. For when malfunctions do happen, the liner is simple enough to clean, but how do you clean the inside of a dry suit anyway without screwing it up? Just soak it like the other gear and hang it to dry when you're done?

    I bought a drysuit today

The learning curve really isn't that bad...the Dry Suit Diver specialty is one of the few specialty classes I took that I felt was fairly useful, just FYI. Best advice I can give is suit up in the shade and have your kit already ready to go. For the night dives though, you'll be in heaven!

Is the P-valve really worth it?

Well, thanks for all the replies guys...I don't think there was one person in there who preferred not having one to having one, so I guess that settles it. I was going to dive Monterey today since it's a lake, but I was lazy and slept in, so guess I'll head over to the dive shop and send my...

Is the P-valve really worth it?

Alright, so I'm aware of all the benefits with the P-valve, since they're pretty obvious, but the obvious negatives are making me hesitate. Getting a dry suit on is enough of a PITA without one extra step. The possibility of the system failing and me getting urine all over the inside of the suit...

    I bought a drysuit today

Congrats! You'll go from freezing your ass off during the dive to roasting your ass off before the dive. :) Almost gets bad enough when its warm out that I'm tempted to get a 7mm to use when its in the high 80s or warmer out.

    Trip Report - Kaimana Divers - 2/24-2/28

Me and Kathy just wrapped up our last day of diving with Gabe and Drew today. Oh man, whoever said that there isn't much to see diving Hawaii is either on crack or should have booked their trip with Kaimana Divers. We both agree that this is the best diving we've had so far. Here's a general...

    Monterey Dive Boat Recommendations

I haven't heard anyone mention that the Silver Prince or Monterey Express do afternoon dives. I could have sworn I looked at their schedules within the last month or two and saw both boats offered them. Can anyone confirm or deny?
