What is the point of certifications?

You are a troll, and trying to stir something up. I did name another sport where "certification" is required - skydiving. You cannot make a solo jump until you have achieved a minimum level of competency as certified by a USPA instructor. All your training jumps are made with instructors or...

What is the point of certifications?

If you want to collect your own gear, purchase a compressor, set up your fill station and teach yourself to dive off your own boat or dock, then knock yourself out. But as soon as other people are involved (e.g. dive shops, boat captains, divemasters, etc) then there needs to be a method of...

Rust inside MK25/A700 after using with steel tank

Almost all the current ScubaPro kits do in fact contain ALL the soft parts. Every O-ring, Every seat, Every shim. You get the entire setup. I'm not worried about non-wear parts such as a hose or second stage diaphragm, as I can clean those. In those rare cases where an o-ring is not...

Rust inside MK25/A700 after using with steel tank

First of all, even for both kits (1st and 2nd stage) it would not be 60 bucks for the parts. As far as coverage under warranty/PFL goes, if the owner is the original purchaser from an authorized SP dealer, then I would call Jules at SP and discuss the issue. If SP declined to cover and it was...

Rust inside MK25/A700 after using with steel tank

The problem is that once the rust has gone past the filter (OP reported rust in second stage) then the iron oxide particles will act as an abrasive, causing premature wear of the plating on the inside of the piston cap. In my view a complete service is not a "waste" but a prudent step to take...

Rust inside MK25/A700 after using with steel tank

If you brought this to me it would get a full service, including complete disassembly, cleaning, full service kit (which always includes a filter) and reassembly and testing. As others have said, the rust came from the tank - the majority of the reg is chrome-plated brass, which cannot "rust"...

Old Scubapro reg - what is it?

Be aware that the yoke on the MK3 is not designed for "high pressure" tanks. It's only rated for something like 2200 psi. Compare the thickness of the material to that of a modern reg. If you are using an AL80 tank you might want to consider a short fill.

Cousteau´s Conshelf experiments - where are the remains?

I can't find anything definitive, but given Cousteau's environmental sensitivity I doubt that much of anything was left on the bottom. I found this on YouTube YouTube - Underwater habitat remains - L'habitat sous-marin demeure Jacques Cousteaus 1965 film World Without Sun swept theater...

Top 5 Best Dive Sites in Bonaire?

Here's a couple I really like. Angel City - fabulous dive where the double reef comes together. Hilma Hooker - It's a really nice, easy shipwreck dive. Bari Reef - really wide variety of fish all along this section. At the south end there's a cool little shipwreck at 90 feet if you want to go...

    Purge mask Hurting my nose!

The purge mechanism is two pieces. A rigid piece that kinds looks like a pizza with slices out of it, and then a covering flexible flapper valve. The flapper seals against the rigid bit until you exhale through your nose, then the flapper moves out of the way, allowing the water and air to...

    Advice on Fins (Ankle Pain)

I can recommend the new ScubaPro Sea Wing Novas. I used them for a week in Bonaire and found them to be extremely comfortable, and fast. Hopefully your local SP dealer has a set you can take for a test drive.

    Crystal River Manatee snorkeling..which shop?

I can highly recommend Bird's Underwater. Really nice folks. Plus, they leave early so you are usually the first boat out to find the manatees.

    Honking Scubapro A700? Your experience?

There is an updated diaphragm that is supposed to cure some of the honking. Because of the metal case the sound is especially noticeable and SP came up with a fix. Have your service tech call the mother ship and talk to Jules.

SP 2nd stage serious water leak

It is difficult to say for sure what happened without inspecting the unit, but unseating the diaphragm is near the bottom of my list of possibilities. In fact, I'd consider it nearly impossible to unseat the diaphragm on a properly assembled regulator. Here are my suggestions: a) If you turn...

Anyone else with a Uwatec Aladin Tec 2G?

Rinse under running fresh (tap) water, and dry thoroughly. The problem is residual salt on the water contacts (the metal dots between the two buttons) creating a conductive path. You have to get all the salt off.

Anyone else with a Uwatec Aladin Tec 2G?

There was a batch of Aladins that had some battery life problems. For original owners these were all replaced by ScubaPro at no charge. For at least two years I have not seen any problems. Mine has been very reliable. The computer has been available with any of several mounts. Wrist mount...

    Galileo Luna Help!!! Needed.

First the easy question - there is no Bluetooth, you must use IR. It is technically possible to use the Mac, but the Mac dive log software is (J-TRAK) nowhere near as nice as the SmartTRAK for Windows. The data files are not compatible between the Mac and Windows versions (at least as of a...

    Tank Pressure Transmitters

According to a Cochran manual I found on a German site: Cochran uses 250 KHz Oceanic uses 36 KHz Uwatec uses 8 KHz This probably explains why there is no FCC database entry for my Sol - 8KHz is actually an "audio" frequency so is probably exempt from Part 15 authorization requirements (I'm too...

    Tank Pressure Transmitters

I thought that all RF transmitting devices sold in the US must be registered with the FCC. Normally somewhere on the transmitter there will be an FCC ID number. You can take this number and go to the FCC Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) publicly accessible database and look up the...

    Question regarding LP Tank

The "500 psi belongs to your buddy" is a bit of shorthand. in fact, you should not be in a position that you and your buddy need to air share from depth with only 501 psi in the tank. Under normal circumstances, you need to begin your ascent with sufficient pressure to ARRIVE at the surface...
