I saw on CDNN that there was a FRENCH diver (as in from FRANCE) that died in Ireland. His body was recovered on 4-11. Maybe this is what you heard about???
I found nothing about anyone buying it in the Keys in April.

We saw 4 of them on Friday. They followed our boats Q1 & Q3 from Quissence Dive Shop for about 10 minutes. They got on our wake right when we broke into open water from the mangrove channel & surfed our wake. It was cool when all 4 of them were jumping at the same time.

Just back from a week in Key Largo.
Weather was G R E A T. Not only was it much warmer than Indiana, but the winds died throughout the week, making great boating conditions.
Monday started out with mostly 3 footers and some 4's. The current was ripping, especially on our second dive...
Key Largo to Miami Beach in 1.5 hours is doable...but you can just as easy be in a 1.5 hour traffic jam in Miami or on US 1. DEFINITELY ALLOW MORE TIME THAN THAT TO MAKE THE BOAT! With most boats leaving at 8:30 or 9, you might want to shoot for the 1pm afternoon trip!

No, not necessary, they will find you a buddy or TWO. Sometimes that is a negative though, as you don't have any idea if your new buddy will be a liability or an asset!
I travel to KL by myself a couple times a year and usually get "pot luck" on the boat. I watch my "new buddy" on the way...
BENWOOD is an excellent "EASY" wreck dive. It is in 30 to 45 fsw. No point going out further than the bow, as it just gets deep (90 fsw) and there is nothing to see. Stay on the wreck and make a couple of laps around it. Then go back to the bow and look thru the holes in top deck and see all...
Benwood Wreck is a cool night dive. It runs from about 30' at shallowest point to about 45' at the bow. Lots of eels & fish make their home in the wreck. If you want to go deeper, keep heading off the bow and it will drop off fairly rapidly to around 90', but not much to see out there.

Yes, I thought chance of hurricane ruining vacation would be rare.....but IVAN got me!
They closed the Keys the day before we were to arrive. That got me out of any charges with the HOTEL, but the AIRLINE still SCREWED me since flight was not to Keys! Part of the reason I now DRIVE 1200+...
If weather (wind & waves) is poor, go somewhere else. As viz will be poor. It is a shallow dive...roughly 20' deep and surrounded by coral. Coral surrounding the statue goes to within 5 or 6' from surface. Lots of surge if wavy.
Not to diminish anyone else's experience, but it is a "been...
Sorry you had crappy weather.
I'm leaving tomorrow (Tues) morning and driving down. Will try to dive THurs/Fri with Silent World. Have reservations with Brent (Blue Water) for Sat & Sun. Will try Silent World again on Monday and then start driving back. Hope I have better luck with...
Anyone from SB signed up for the MARCH trip yet?
I'm coming down from Indy with 2 people and we've booked. Looking forward to meeting some other SB'ers.
Mike
Some additional info:
1.) I've got 100+ dives in Key Largo.
2.) I've done the GROVE 4 times (last time on 12-30-2005). 2 times with Silent World. 2 times with Tavernier Dive Center.
3.) I've had 2 GROVE dives called off. 1 by Silent World when we arrived at site and current was too...
I think the discussion of TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS...The "It's A Dive" incident where guy came up on wrong ball and was told to "wait" while Capt. boarded other passengers...AND the most recent one with "Silent World" makes for CONFUSION in this thread!
I have not dove with It's A Dive. I have...
While we are commenting on AQUANUTS, I have the following to say:
I dove with them on 2 occassions. The first about a month or so BEFORE they left the 2 divers out on the reef overnight, and the second about a month AFTER.
I noticed they had a different procedure on the 2nd trip, they...
For INEXPENSIVE try:
Ed & Ellen's Lodgings (103.3 MM Ocean side). Depending on time of year they run from $49 a night (summer) up to $100 a night on HOLIDAY WEEKENDS. They have a website... www.ed-ellens-lodgings.com Nothing fancy. No phone in room, no pool. Only 5 rooms in the whole...
try www.ed-ellens-lodgings.com
It is located at 103.3 mm on Ocean side. If you are looking for a PLACE TO SLEEP this could be the ticket. I've stayed there for several years. As low as $49 off season. $79 during season, and $100 on "holiday" weekends.
It just is a room with a small...
I go to the Keys 2 or 3 times a year. I was down there last time Dec 28 - Jan 4th 2006. Air temp was 80 high/ 70 low and water temp was 73. I wear a 1mm skin under a 2mm shorty, gloves & polartec hood. With that gear I am good to go all day long. I'd definitely take a hood & gloves though...
I just got back from Key Largo. Did 6 dives (3 trips on Dec 29, 30 & 31st...a good way to end the year). The weather was MARVELOUS that week.
I try to go to the Keys 2 or 3 times a year. Made it 3 times in 2005. Already planning for another trip in end of FEB 2006!
I can refer the...
