How does PADI define a "dive"?

I got into a discussion with someone who is attempting to "zero-to-hero" their DM :shakehead:. They were insistent that in order to get the requisite number of dives, they could simply log many short dives:confused:. As far as I understand, PADI has a requirement that in order to be a "dive"...

Who is PADI's Liability Insurance (issued by V&B) Underwritten By?

Thanks for that! I was unaware that Best rated financial size using that nomenclature.

Who is PADI's Liability Insurance (issued by V&B) Underwritten By?

Thank you -- that seems to settle it. On a slightly related note, I wonder why they choose to disclose the underwriter on the Dive Store/Resort application, but not on the individual Divemaster/Instructor application. I still have no idea what "XV" refers to. Thanks again!

Who is PADI's Liability Insurance (issued by V&B) Underwritten By?

AIG would make sense, they have been in the dive and travel insurance business for a while. That is who underwrites DAN's travel assist program as well. While AIG may be a mess at the corporate level, being in this industry, you can rest assured that the insurance subsidiaries are just fine. The...

Who is PADI's Liability Insurance (issued by V&B) Underwritten By?

I am finishing my DM this month and I have an insurance question... I was wondering if anyone can tell me who the underwriter is for the PADI liability insurance coverage that is offered by V&B? My coverage is being paid for by the LDS, but I am still curious as to who underwrites the policy...

    San Diego accident

I've hear about these transmitter failures for a long time. Interestingly, I've accumulated about 25 hours of bottom time on my computer (it's still fairly new) and I log my dives in 15 second intervals. There have only been two data points in my entire log that have shown the transmitter as not...

    San Diego accident

Same here. I check my girlfriends air regularly. She is not as experienced a diver as yours but I concur that 4 eyes are better than 2. Sometimes I'll see her looking at my computer to check my air, which I appreciate. I've been thinking about getting an extra transmitter for my VT3 so that I...

PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

I start my Rescue confined water work tomorrow and will be doing the OW rescue portion on the 20th. After reading this thread, I'm interested to see just how intense my training is. The more intense and realistic of various scenarios the better IMO. I have heard from many folks that the dive...

Close call in the dressing room

This is funny, but on a serious note in a not-so-serious thread, WHY do people insist on stuffing their bodies into wetsuits that are too small. GET A BIGGER SIZE. This also goes for men and women who wear street clothes that are too small for them. Really.... None of us need to see every...

The forces of Darwin held at bay

This pressurized snorkel... Is this the same thing as SNUBA that is being pushed at many resorts? I had a friend that was encouraged to go on a SNUBA excursion because he was not certified & afraid of the dangers of diving. The tour operator told them that there were absolutely none of the risks...

    Panic Attack

Congratulations on holding yourself together. As stated before, once you get re-acclimated at shallower depths, you will be ready once again to try some deeper dives. There are plenty of shallow ocean dives that IMO are better (more bottom time, more color, more fish) then many of the deeper...

Boat's Emergency O2 Kit is "Out of Air"

While there was not a dire need for it in hindsight, I struggle to understand how you could rule out DCS even from the minimal amount of information (numbness/tingling in extremities, disorientation, lightheadedness) in my post. Regardless, I think everyone will agree that the bigger point is...

Boat's Emergency O2 Kit is "Out of Air"

This is a great point and one that I thought of. Unfortunately there was no one on board this boat that was diving NITROX. I think you are smart to mention that NITROX is the next best thing to O2 if you want to get a diver a higher oxygen concentration. The highest concentration available would...

Boat's Emergency O2 Kit is "Out of Air"

Sorry, I didn't mean to cause confusion there. Her boyfriend did surface with her and I guess I should have said that when they reached the boat, the only other people there were the captain and deckhand. Geoff and Petunia are correct in that while he was experienced, he is by no means an...

Boat's Emergency O2 Kit is "Out of Air"

I was on a dive trip in Mexico at the beginning of September (2008). It was our third dive of the day, a wreck at about 60ft. One of the girls on our dive began to experience lightheadedness and disorientation after she reached the bottom of the decent line. She was a newer diver and aborted...

Problems entering dives manually into OceanLog

I have had a very frustrating few weeks of trying to manually enter my dives into OceanLog. Downloading from the computer works fine, aside from the fact that I can't dictate a starting lifetime dive number. I run into the following problems when trying to enter dives manually: 1) When you...
