    Tulamben, Mount Agung, Current Situation...

Good tips. Just want to add my 2 cents regarding no 2 (transportation). When I was in Jakarta in late July/August, I used mostly Uber, that worked pretty well. The regional/local versions (Grab, Go-Car) should also work.

    Just Starting Out

Definitely go with the D7000 housing. However, you might need to find a used one especially if you decide to go with aluminum housing, since AFAIK most of the aluminum D7000 housings have been discontinued since most manufacturers have moved on to D7100 (Ikelite is an exception, their housing is...

On both routes (Makassar-Sorong and the upcoming Manado-Sorong), Garuda is using the CRJ 1000 jet, smaller than a 737 but larger than Wings' ATR.

7 divers missing off Indonesian island

That appears to be the case based on the divers' statements. One of the two instructors then tried to swim to a boat, but to no avail, and she couldn't rejoin the group because of currents, but she ended up on some rocks. The remaining 6 reached some other rocks also, 4 of them made it out of...

7 divers missing off Indonesian island

Sad news indeed. Serangan Island, then this deceased diver drifted west to the main island. The latest article that I've seen from WSJ said that the two people spotted were actually rescuers left behind after rescuing the five divers (might need subscription to view): Body of One of Two Missing...

    Makassar layover options

If you want to arrange something in advance, a Google search indicates that quite a few foreigners seem to like this particular driver/guide: Dodo Penman. Have seen some TripAdvisor posts mentioning him. Haven't used him though, so I don't have any direct experience with him. Dodo The Penman...

Which lense to start DSLR underwater photography?

The 60mm works for both DX and FX. With DX, there is a 1.5 crop factor (effectively becomes 90mm). Note that Ken Rockwell is comparing the 60mm with the 105mm, both macro lenses, which by design can achieve 1:1 magnification ratio. The 35mm f1.8 is not a macro lens, its magnification ratio is...

Which lense to start DSLR underwater photography?

I would recommend you get a 60mm macro lens, maybe also a 1.4x teleconverter. That should be good to start with.

Trip to KL booked, should I go for Raja Ampat?

How long do you have? Getting to Raja Ampat is quite a trek, even from Kuala Lumpur. And how comfortable are you diving in strong currents? Also, your non-diver companion might not enjoy it as much in Raja Ampat. Bali might a good option for both of you.

What do you wish you had known BEFORE you went to Lembeh/Lembeh Resort?

Then you probably wouldn't be disappointed. Be careful what you wish for, though (but don't take this too seriously!). I heard a fellow traveler at the resort complained, "NO MORE NUDIBRANCHS!". I also like nudibranchs in general, but by the end of the trip, I too was kind of tired of them. And...

What do you wish you had known BEFORE you went to Lembeh/Lembeh Resort?

Some people like to prepare a list of what they wish to see, and give it to the guide. If you are looking for Rhinopias though, when I was there in September, the guides (I was at NAD) told me they hadn't seen any Rhinopias in two years. Looks like one was found in June, but most likely it...
