    O/W Referral class questions

Thanks for the inputs. I guess I didn't mean miss a dive so much as had to dive with a DM for two days (so not doing boat dives with the group etc.) wjeiii makes it more clear. The 4 checkout dives must be spread across 2 days, and that's fair. We were thinking the referral program simply...

    O/W Referral class questions

Hey all, I have no idea the best place for this question. A friend of mine is looking to go to Bonaire, and looking to complete the open water dives with a referral with Buddy Dive. Anybody done this? Buddy Dive says "can be completed in 2 days", and 4 dives. I'm trying to understand if my...

Photos from Cozy and Bonaire with new D7100 setup

Hey there! I found hunting to be an issue only in certain circumstances. One example when I photographed some squid eggs inside a deeper crevice. Ambient light was enough... until I got close enough with the camera and blocked the light... then it was a significant challenge (add Cozy current...

3 Photos from my first day with the D7100

Thanks - yeah, they're not perfect, but compared to my G10 I couldn't be happier. Did a touch better with these two - I got better through the week as I got more used to things - buoyancy needs to be pretty darn good for SHARP photos... (EDIT - Just realized that copying and displaying through...

3 Photos from my first day with the D7100

In Bonaire this week, and the first day with the D7100 and Nauticam housing went great! Still going through photos, and only on a laptop monitor, so color/exposure could be a tad off. There will definitely be a learning curve with the setup, but I couldn't be happier. The G10 was great, but...

    Back kick issue

Some wise words there! I'm no expert, but as a photog I work on this constantly because it allows me to head-in to some areas to get a shot where I have no forward way out of the situation (I mean avoiding reef/critters, not safety issues). If you think about your foot/fin's normal motion when...

    Anyone use YS-01 with a D7000 or D7100?

I have a new D7100 and YS-01 strobes awaiting my next dive trip. I happened across this: SEA&SEA | Which appears to list DS-TTL as "Impossible" with the D7000 and YS-01... which I find extremely surprising. Has anyone shot this combination? is optical synch TTL possible?

    Float Recommendation

Hey all - This isn't really Nikon specific, but I'm posting here since it is the NA-D7100 housing, so maybe some have experience. My first dive with my new setup will be in Bonaire, so I'm trying to figure out what kind of floats I'll need/want to bring. Here's my setup: Nikon D7100 + 105mm...

    More lense info please

Have you shot with a 50mm? (Q to the OP) I have the 50/F1.8, because of cost. It's a nice, sharp, fast lens...that I NEVER use. Now, I just got an u/w DSLR housing, but I've been shooting DSLR topside for 10y... and I NEVER use that lens... it collects dust. To be honest it is a "wierd" FL...

    I'm a big boy now!!

Jon, do it! :) I can't wait either... sadly I will have to, no way to get wet between now and mid-July... James, thanks, please do post what you think about the focus light, my list is a clean slate at the moment... still deciding how to mount it. the NA-D7100 apparently only comes with two...

    I'm a big boy now!!

Thanks all! I do have a lanyard, but wasn't sure what to do for floatation yet... thoughts on how much? Focus light is on the list... found a good thread here with some recos... Yeah patience... I'm fully aware this will not start out as a photo extravaganza :) and my first trip may turn out...

    D7100 housing and lighting ideas.

I just got my D7100 and NA housing this week! It's a piece of art... I can't wait to start shooting with it. NA-D7100, 2x S&S YS-01 and right now just 105mm macro and port.

    I'm a big boy now!!

After many years of shooting with a Canon G10 and single Sea and Sea YS-01, I've made the leap to DSLR. The G10 was great, and I'm really glad I started there... it's generated some nice images over the years, but it was time to have more control and capability. Manual settings for the G10 are...

Decent hotel for overnight in Curacao?

All thanks! Just getting back to this thread. For my November trip I stayed at the Hilton... it was just ok (considering the fairly high price). I think we caught them on a bad day though, they seemed terribly understaffed and had some other "issues" related to room assignments and such due...
