Awesome trip report with awesome photos, thanks for sharing.
Going to have to add Tahsis to the dive-getaway wishlist. Were you able to get nitrox & trimix fills there locally or would you be carting it all up there with you?
....just for peoples information; after playing in the bathtub it turns out the 1/8" - 3/16" of water between the camera flash and the cable end was enough for the strobe not to fire (but in air it fired just fine). By moving the cable against the housing it fires everytime now.
I've been using an Olympus UFL-1 strobe wirelessly mounted on top of my Olympus compact and housing for some time now without issue.
I recently invested in a tray/arm and fiber-optic cable to get the strobe away from the camera to improve my shots. I've been playing around with the new...
So you're saying a red filter is basically going to give me the same effect as my current underwater settings and both are only really useful when taking wide angle shots. That makes sense.
I will try that out. If Im playing with manual settings any recommendation for the ISO or...
I'm currently playing with an Olympus 790SW in a case with an UFL-1 strobe. I use the u/w settings of the Olympus and in general they work quite nicely but I often find they over-compensate, in particular on close macro shots. I'm wondering if getting off the u/w settings of the Olympus and...
It is a Olympus 790SW and a UFL-1 strobe https://emporium.olympus.com/innards/empProdDetails.asp?sku=202116-410 It actually takes very respectable pictures when it's not lighting up every particle in the water.
I think I may have answered my own question as I see they now offer a fiber optic...
So when I bought my underwater case for my camera the Olympus Rep sold me on a top-mount wireless u/w slave flash :turkey: ...after getting some experience with it I quickly discovered this was a very poor setup. I have since built a proper tray and am now trying to move the flash away from...
I have an AL30 and an AL40, the 40 is a couple inches longer but you truly cannot notice the difference between them when you are in the water.
If you are thinking of technical/cave diving down the road you will find the 40 far more useful as all of your dive buddies will be packing them...
Thanks for the replies guys, I will check MetLife out.
I am dealing with an insurance agent and we haven't found anything better in Canada so I'm looking south of the border now to see what I can find. I'm hoping some people here might have a recommendation for a company they are using?
As I recently purchased my first home I have discovered the intricacies of insurance and diving. I have some coverage through work which gives me excellent disability coverage but no where near enough life insurance now that I have a scary big mortgage.
Because I have already been deeper...
Thanks, I was hopping to find a shore dive or two as we aren't sporting a big budget and they seem to want twice what I'm used to paying for a couple of boat dives in Tofino.
If I hadn't just moved I could probably find my copy of 151 Dives and see if there was anything in there.
Heading to Tofino this weekend with no real plan or schedule and wouldn't mind dragging the gear along and jumping in the water a couple times. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with any dive sites or shops there? ...don't mind having to drive over to Uclulet if necessary.
I...
Wait if you feel the need but there is definitely no reason not to take it now. When I did it I found the AOW kind of touches on the specialties and gives you supervised dives when you're increasing your limits slightly but did not get incredibly indepth into any one single subjet, kind of a...
There is the Provincial Campground at Bamberton which has shore access, I don't know if anyone would try and stop you from diving there? I've always wanted to try it out. Bamberton Provincial Park - BC Parks
Anybody been in the water around Spring Bay / Ten Mile Point in the last week or so? Vis was 10-15' about three weeks ago, just wondering if it's improved?
