    Why do divers eat seafood?

I’ve already responded to the points you’re making here, so no need to repeat them. But here is where the issue lies… “I personally don't care if you do or don't take lobster, and I am not against fishing for those who want to do it. I do however think as divers, as stewards of the ocean, we...

    Why do divers eat seafood?

So are you agreeing that as long as it’s sustainable it’s ok to eat them? At first your opinion was driven by emotion, as a scuba diver (lover of underwater world) you wouldn’t eat fish because fish are found underwater, that’s what I responded to. But to the rest of your comment, sure, I’ll...

    Why do divers eat seafood?

You know, I enjoy the topside just as much as I do underwater. I love hiking in the forest up in the mountains, I specially like mountainbiking in trails as natural and remote as possible, I love camping out in the woods, and in any of those topside activities, encounters with wildlife is highly...

    Why do divers eat seafood?

You are reinforcing the point I’m making, if I was to go spear fishing freediving I’d kill way more Sanppers than I would Kingfish on scuba, simply because I could free dive all day. I don’t have a strong opinion on it either, again, I engage on both, well, at least used to, haven’t done in...

    Why do divers eat seafood?

I’m just commenting on the view that spearing on scuba is easier and more devastating to the environment than if done while free diving, it is even more surprising coming from people who are educated on scuba. I lived in 2 places which have opposite laws on spearing while scuba, 1st I learned to...

Oh man, not this silly view of spear fishing on scuba is unfair…

    Non Diving DCS Death

That just sounded funny to me. I'm curious to know how many missions he is talking about and how many more will it take to figure out the appropriate amount of supplies.

Anyone know the buoyancy characteristics of the Halcyon Focus corded primary light?

Oh haha, thats not to rest your thumb on it, that’s a scooter thumb loop. It is made so that you can move the light to your right hand and hold it facing forward while remaining on the trigger driving the scooter. There’s a standard size and a cold water (thick gloves/dry gloves) dry suit size...

Question Florida folks: What's your cold threshold?

Never. I always use a full 3mm at a minimum. I have never, ever been too warm underwater, but I use a full suit for reasons other than thermal protection also. You don't have to, dive whatever way you feel comfortable.

    cave vs open water dpv

Yeah, OW practice will go a long way. When I started using DPV I knew it eventually would end up in a cave (I wasn't cave certified yet), so I'd do the best I could to mimic scootering in a cave and see where I was in handling skill wise. I'd scooter as close to the bottom as possible and do...

    Am I the dumb one?

I believe the principle cause is temperature of the gases, don't quote me on that, I could be misremembering, a search here may bring it up, I think it has been discussed before. But basically the different gases end up with different temperatures, He being lower than O2 and N2, which right...

    Am I the dumb one?

I may have tried flipping the order of the gases, can't remember. But my logical mind definitely prompted me to "blast" the air in last to mix everything, it did not do the trick however.

    Am I the dumb one?

It most definitely makes a difference a certain scenarios. Partial pressure mixing trimix for example will change the readings on the analyzer right in front of your eyes, drastically, by drastically I mean 10% + variance in less than a minute. Can't say that every fill will have that effect...

Info Looking for a specific accessory

Boat ran over my flag and I lost my manta reel and reef hook. What I really need help is replacing the reef hook. It was 3 pieces of spearshaft where the prong is located, welded back to back, so that you could fold the prongs when not in use, super neat. I had bought it a long time ago from a...

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

What I read from this is, your son had such poor quality of training that it made you uncomfortable letting him do deepish dives. Because he had such poor quality of training, you therefore concluded that no training at all is needed to do shallow dives. A famous diver wrote an article once...

    Empty Tanks???

I see about 1500 cylinders yearly, not an estimate, a verified number through the logs, not counting the rental fleet which accounts for another several hundreds, for the last ~10 years. I have never seen failure due to lube, and every single one of them gets lubed. 99% of tanks from other...

Right, see third paragraph I wrote from the post you quoted me.

    Empty Tanks???

I think it has to do with what you wrote earlier, about proper installation. My belief is that if a dab of lube were applied in the threads and this retailer did nothing different, there would be no problem removing those valves. Or they could apply a different technique installing the valves...

    Empty Tanks???

Or not putting any lube on the valve. There’s a retailer here in SFL insisting in not using ANY lube on the valve threads, good luck removing that valve a year later.
