    Lost GoPro at Whytecliff

Hey everyone, Kind of a long shot, but we lost a GoPro while snorkeling/free diving in the bay at Whytecliff today, fairly shallow on the left side of the bay. It's mounted on a headstrap... If anyone happens across it while diving, please let me know! Cheers, Roko ---------- Post added...

    Fills in Sechelt?

I'm going to be up on the Sunshine coast for a week, and am hoping to get some diving in. With Suncoast Diving temporarily closed, are there any alternatives in the Sechelt area for fills?

10 Watt HID to LED Conversion

I don't have the means to accurately measure the temperature at the moment, so I'm not sure exactly how hot it's running. Fully assembled and underwater, I suspect it will be lower than it would be when measured in air. From the datasheet, the thermal resistance of the XM-L to the solder...

    Nudibranch Lovers

It's been a while, I have 5 or 6 pages of photos in this thread to go through! Here's a new one to me. I've probably seen it before, but this is the first time I've noticed, took a photo and looked it up.. A Nanaimo Nudibranch (On the other side of the Straight of Georgia from Nanaimo, at...

I believe it, we have amazing diving out here! I just dream of warm water and better viz some days ;-) Great photos! I've been meaning to get out to Kelvin to find that lumpsucker, but sadly the parking has always been full.... Sent from my Zeagle N2ition

Diver86, That Octopus shot is awesome! Likewise, amazing photos all around! Here are my favourite 3 photos from this year, 2 of which I've posted in other threads... A Red Gilled Nudibranch, at Tuwanek BC. One of my favourite dive spots within a reasonable day-trip away (not including crossing...

Here's a good read on transformer cooling: http://electrical-engineering-portal.com/transformer-cooling-classes The comparison I drew in my earlier post wasn't the best because I was only considering conductive heat transfer, not the convection process that occurs in naturally cooled...

Lucca, I suggest you reread my post. I believe I did mention that mineral oil is not that much better than air in terms of thermal conductance, and may be insufficient as a cooling medium for LEDs. There's no magic line between thermal conductors and insulators, as they perform a reciprocal...

    Octopus Lovers

Some more GPO photos from the Vancouver area.. My first good Octo photo, which was actually the first octo I saw outside of a deep crack. From a couple years back, under the Granthall at Porteau Cove. This one was BIG. A juvenile GPO at Whytecliff park, out in the middle of the bay, from...

Mineral oil will help with heat transfer (in fact, it's used for that particular purpose in some applications like high voltage transformers), but the downside is that it's not that much more thermally conductive (at ~.13 to .16 W/mK from what I can find online) than air (0.24 W/mK), so may not...

Man, I am late to the party! Here's a small GPO from Howe Sound a few weeks ago.... The funny thing about that guy was that I saw his mantle and eyes peeking out at us from under a rock from a few meters away... I wish I got a photo of that, it was priceless. I'll upload more when I'm home...

    Nudibranch Lovers

Those are some amazing photos, goes to show that the person behind the camera is more important than the camera itself! Hopefully one day I'll be able to master my P&S like that. I particularly like that Octopus, where did you find it? (I kind of want to start an "Octopus Lovers" thread...

Sounds like you're on the right track, but I just wanted to clarify for potential future readers that if making/retrofitting an existing metal-bodied light, the only way to shed heat is through the light body and into the water. The goal of the design, then, is to find the most efficient way to...

    Nudibranch Lovers

Found this guy on Sunday -- Very small, less than 1cm in length. Not 100% sure on the species, there are a few in my book that resemble it, and this is the only angle I got. - The dark gills separate it from the Red Gilled Nudibranchs I've posted before.

These species are repeats, but some new pictures from last weekend. Golden Dirona: Giant Nudibranchs -- My strobe was dead at this point, so I used my canister light. I don't remember if this was 2 or 3 different individuals (There were many, but a lot of the pictures didn't turn out), but...

Can anyone ID this BC Invertebrate?

Thanks! I never thought of cucumbers. Do the Red Sea Cucumbers really have that much colour variation within the species? The body was rather cream/white, with orange frills. Some more photos of different ones from the same dive, The second with a VERY red Red Sea Cucumber :)
