I think that this is just the "nostalgia" we get when we visit places we been to a long time ago, like visiting your kindergarten or grade school or even old neighborhood or home. They are never the same and not as "big" or nice as they were back then.

Those of us who have been diving for a long time can share similar stories. There is even one place that I visited in the 1970s, and have such fond memories of, that I refuse to return, lest those reefs in my mind of
+ 45 years ago become the dead coral, algae covered, graveyard of today. No, I will let my memories live on.
