Or is it just muck?
I love muck and macro but some colorful reefs are nice too.
Like combining Lembeh and Bangka or Anilao.
There's some reef diving south of Ambon island like Pintu Kota, which is a quite impressive rock bridge over a valley of gorgonians, Hukurila caves are also quite worthwhile to dive.
There are some northern dives which also gives access to reef dives.

The best reef diving part around Ambon are Lease islands, an hour or more navigation east of Ambon I really had a hard time (and more than 200USD additional cost) to setup a trip using Blue Rose's big speedboat at the time they were located on the southern part of the island, I guess it's now impossible since they are relocated into Ambon bay.
Molana, Haruku and especially Nusa Laut was great diving. I guess now you can only access from a dive center located in Saparua.

Try to arrange first with the operation you are booking with, prepare to pay hefty extras for going out of the bay.
