Hey,

I just joined your community. I got qualified last November down in LA (doing all the diving in FL) and have now moved to Long Island, NY where the water is, how can I say this, slightly different. Doing a night dive in Devil's Den compared to Ponquogue Bridge with a few feet of vis and a current makes you realise just how much there is to learn. Should be signed off with my Advanced on Sunday and will be Nitrox capable at the same time. I'll be reading the forums and searching for stuff and posting my own questions in the days and weeks to come.

Deep waters :)

Welcome to the Board and I am sure that you will find quite a few divers in your area to help get you acclimated!

That being said, the diving in Florida is simply AWESOME. You might consider moving back at some time!

I am definitely going to be diving in FL again. There are too many caves there to ignore which is something I would like to specialise in. However, moving there is another matter - it is too hot for most of the year. I like the variations in seasons and even though I am from England where we don't get much of a summer, I think N. GA would be the furthest I move South. I could have a house for the winter there - that would be original  - but then where would I do ice diving?? Is there anywhere you can have it all?

Howdy!

Welcome to SB!!
:happywave Put us in your computer's favorites and check in often. This is a great place to learn, compare, argue :argue: Look around our various forums - everything from New-To-Scuba to Instructors-Only to Dive Medicine.

Thanks for making space in here for another diver. Wow, there's actually lots of space for more people. Visibility is great, buddies are friendly!! I'll make sure I keep my equipment worn close and won't disturb the bottom.

Heat is just another excuse to go diving my friend! :D
I don't think there is any argument there...off to phone the movers again :)

Hey, did you say Ponquogue Bridge?? I'm originally from Westhampton Beach (been in LA since 1980), but as I recall Ponquogue is that long bridge in Hampton Bays, no? I just got certified a couple months ago here, and went back to Westhampton a few weeks ago, and was thinking of going diving, but didn't think there would be any dive spots in the area.

That is the place!! We dive by the old bridge - one of the best places to dive on LI but the tide has to be slack. You have to chose whether to dive on the North side or the South side. Parking permit req'd for the south side but not for the north. You are not supposed to cross the channel though I know some of the divers searching for supper accidently stray. During the night dive, saw lots of crabs, lobsters and one eel. Many divers come back holding on to 4-6 pound fish!! If you are back in the area again soon, check out the schedule at Beach Schedule and you will see that we dive there frequently.
