I'm a Fish!
Blue Lake Cleanup - Saturday October 23rd

Help cleanup a cool site in Utah!

I'm organizing an underwater and beach clean up to improve Blue Lake a recreation / dive site in Utah. Blue Lake is a 215 acre management area consisting of several clear deep hot spring fed lakes/ponds with an extensive wetland complex surrounding them. Blue Lake is the largest of these lakes with an actual depth of around 54 feet and with a winter surface temperature of 76 degrees. The elevation is around 4300 feet so altitude diving rules apply for those participating in the underwater cleanup.

Blue Lake is very popular for Scuba-Divers year round. Unfortunately lots of fishermen and day visitors (Divers included) leave trash all over the site (in and out of the water.) I've registered this event with ProjectAware.org. We will begin clean up around noon. I'll have trash bags for land and water use. This is a primitive site with absolutely NO FACILATIES (bathrooms etc) Please plan accordingly. Bring water, lunch/snacks, lawn chairs, etc.

Dive Utah has an underwater pumpkin carving contest for fun that day as well with prizes being awarded to best pumpkins carved underwater with a dive knife! Depending on how many folks are interested I may drag out one of Dive Utah's cascade trailers for air onsite.

Directions: To get to Blue Lake from Salt Lake City travel on I-80 west to Wendover Nevada. Once in Wendover travel to HWY 93 which is located across from the Pepper Hotel and Casino. Travel South on HWY 93 for approx 14 miles to the Blue Lake Sign. Turn East and travel down a rough wash board road for approx 5 miles. There are no facilities, please plan accordingly.

I hope to see some of you fellow SB folks out there! Please contact me if you have any questions.

Chris

I'm planning on going. Planning on bringing about five gallons of bug repellent and killer as well...
Was out there a while ago, wish something could be done about the road more than the trash, it really wasn't too dirty last time.

Cool! Should be a decent turn out. Hopefully the bugs have mellowed out by then. I thought a pack of horse flys were going to carry me off back in June...
