Can you make your own lobster gauge (CA)?

Going for CA spiny lobsters in a few days. Can you make your own lobster gauge? Or does it have to be one purchased? If you can make one, would a simple PVC pipe work?

Edit: Also, is it possible to keep lobsters for a few days? Would freezing it work? Or should I really just eat it right away?

You can make one, but they're so cheap it's hardly worth the trouble.

Freezing is fine. They won't be fresh, but it's still lobster... Delicious. You can keep them in the fridge too for about 24 hours and they will typically survive. Use a container and wet newspaper.
