Spent the last couple of days updating my site and creating a comprehensive guide to cage-diving with the Australian Great White Shark.

I have done numerous trips since my first one back on 1998 when we spent a week out at the Neptune Islands and did not see a single shark... Been back many times since then as it really is a unique experience!

I hope to do Guadalupe later year and am looking forward to comparing the two locations....

If you are interested, you can use this link to check out the Complete Guide to the Australian Great White Shark.

No financial gain involved here - I pay for my own trips and just enjoy writing about it all!

PM or email me if you have any questions - glad to help if I can...

A number of us SoCal divers dove in our local dive park (Casino Point Dive Park, Santa Catalina Island, California) with a 12-15 foot great white shark, no cages involved! Of course our SoCal GWS are a bit more laid back than your more aggressive ones there. I did Guadalupe back in 1984 on a scientific expedition and was very happy to remain in the cage!

Hi Bill, I don't have any other personal data points on the Great Whites down under - but they do seem more aggressive...

I did a trip with Ron & Valerie Taylor about 10 years ago - they basically invented the whole thing all those years ago to get the footage for their early films. They also did a lot of the early stuff in South Africa including filming in open water there (they had lost the cage on the way out...).

Both were adamant that there was no way they would consider getting out of the cage in South Australia!

Go diving off Rottnest Island in Perth for a few weeks and it won't take you too long to see one without being in a cage. I think most regular Perth divers have seen one over there at some point.

I would be entirely unsurprised to find that there was some govt regulation in place that says you have to be in a cage on a commercial gws trip though.

Cool page! I did find the fact that all the "read more" links open a new page a little annoying. Otherwise, great site and even better information!

If you facebook, you should check out the white shark interest group!

Yeah... I heard that Rottnest can be pretty exciting diving - usually when you least expect it!

Thanks or the feedback - will change the "read more" link as suggested!

Diving Rotto....fun at times. I guess it's what we don't see that's more part of the "thrill" .

Really good page, thanks for the info on what to expect, I've always been curious just never thought to actually PAY to have whites around.

The website has good info though. I did cage shark diving with the great whites in South Africa at Gansbaai back in 2014. I really didn't like the way they bait them there, so am kind of interested to know more about the South Australian ops policy on that.

Good point... that's been said to me a few times! For me it's a unique thing that is worth the money involved and if you only believe 10% of what is in the media then you will still get the wrong impression of Great Whites.

For sure they are incredibly dangerous when they are hungry and one bite and you are done, but the reality is that they don't eat that often and when they do they want high-fat. I had read that, but till I saw them around the cage I did not understand it.
