Hi Everyone!

I am wondering if anyone can give me advice about concusions and diving. My husband suffered a concusion after being thrown from and ATV on October 21, 2007. We are going on a Cruise to Cozumel and Grand Cayman. We are booked on a 2 tank diving excursion at Grand Cayman. Does anyone have any advice or experience dealing with this type of situation and then having a planned dive???

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,

Michelle

For a basic introduction, you might want to have a look at the DAN FAQ on head trauma: DAN Divers Alert Network : Head Trauma

If your husband's doctor doesn't have enough knowledge of dive medicine, he might want to try contacting DAN and they can probably provide him with specific medical issues to check for. See the DAN forum under 'Basic Scuba Discussions' for more info on contacting DAN.

You may also want to have a mod/admin move this thread to the 'Diving Medicine' forum under 'Marine Science and Physiology'. Some pretty helpful medical members of SB hang out there, and you'll have a better chance of catching their attention.

Best of luck.

I have a friend who had a mild concussion a few days before a local dive outing. I called DAN and they advised sitting out for several weeks. I don't remember the exact length, but is was long enough to scrub the dive plans.
