Divers Alert Network has appointed Dr. Petar Denoble to Vice President, Mission. In this new role, Dr. Denoble oversees DAN’s Research, Medical and Training departments, responsible for sustaining and enriching DAN’s Mission of keeping divers safe.
Dr. Denoble has been with Divers Alert Network for more than twenty years and previously held the positions of Research Director, Senior Director of Research and Vice President of Research. In these roles, he developed the DL7 Standard for dive computer data and led the development of the largest database of exposure and outcomes in recreational diving through the Project Dive Exploration. Dr. Denoble also led DAN’s program of dive fatality monitoring and studies of their causes and prevention.
Dr. Denoble graduated from the Medical School University of Zagreb in Croatia (formerly Yugoslavia) where his doctoral thesis focused on oxygen consumption in underwater swimming. After graduation, Dr. Denoble enlisted in the Yugoslav Navy where he specialized in naval and diving medicine. Throughout his 13 year naval-career, he was involved with the training, supervision and treatment of divers in open-circuit, closed-circuit, deep-bounce and saturation diving. Before leaving Yugoslavia, Dr. Denoble established JUSMER, an organization of recreational divers in support of emergencies medical services and medical safety education.
In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Denoble has published extensively in scientific journals and organized scientific workshops such as  2010 Fatality Workshop, 2008 DAN Tech Diving Conference and 2012 Rebreather Forum 3. Denoble has also lead internal publishing efforts at DAN and has developed periodicals such as DAN’s Annual Diving Report along with the new Health and Diving Reference Series materials. A seasoned presenter, Dr. Denoble has made keynote addresses at scientific meetings and conferences, workshops and trade shows around the world.
“We are excited to appoint Dr. Denoble to the position of Vice President of Mission,” said Bill Ziefle, President and CEO, Divers Alert Network. “Dr. Denoble brings an extensive set of skills and valuable experience to this position. His contributions to our organization at every level have been significant and he continues to be an excellent ambassador for dive safety,” added Ziefle.
“I am very pleased to accept this appointment,” said Dr. Petar Denoble. “This is a very exciting time for our organization and I look forward to working with my team in many important areas of dive medicine, research and training. We have several substantial initiatives in the pipeline that will further our mission to enhance safety. We will continue to work diligently to make every dive accident-free,” added Denoble.
