Sorry to hear. Om Shanti!

What does the term “autonomous diving” mean?

Autonomous diver - well, been diving 35 years and never heard that term before!

The Wikipedia edits for the link @bradmond posted goes back to 2017 and was a translation from German wiki post going back to 2014, I am guessing it is a European term for open water diver or equivalert.

Sorry to hear about that.

"Autonomous Diver" is the European certification version of Open Water Diver. Each country has their language for it but it means "A diver who can make his/her own decisions about the dive". I had a similar qualification my West German one.
