PADI TecXplor Day, May 7th, 2012 at PADI Americas HQ
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
While at the Scuba Show in Long Beach, Scubaboard was invited to this event by Georgia Hausserman. Since Netdoc and I were planning to stay in the area a couple of days, this sounded like a fun adventure…and we were right.
We arrived early and of course feeling like tourists, we had to stop to photograph the main sign at the entrance. Attendees were congregating at the registration desk while vendors were setting up. Right away we met other participating Scubaboarders.
There was a wide array of vendors present with plenty of demo gear for everyone to try out. PADI opened up their gear locker to loan out any needed wetsuits, fins, masks, tanks and refills.
Participating vendors included: Santi Dry Suits, Trilobyte, rEvo Rebreathers, DUI Dry Suits, Dive Rite Rebreathers and Side-mount, Hollis Rebreathers and Side-mount, HOG Gear, Poseidon Rebreathers, Titan Rebreathers, Ocean Reef Full Face Masks, & KISS Rebreathers.
The crowd quickly amassed, paperwork and releases signed, and we were ushered inside for the opening greeting from PADI President, Drew Richardson. Additionally, all around the room were raffle bowls for attendees to drop tickets into to win a huge assortment of prizes donated by the vendors. Some really cool stuff including reels, spools, lights, undergarments, wings, gift certificates and more. We were torn all day between choosing to go inside to listen to the great lectures on everything from cave diving, CCR, side mount diving and more or the wet fun in the pool.
Our gracious hosts brought in a great local taco truck for a yummy mid-day lunch. This was a good time to sit under the tents and socialize with so many divers.
From the many photos, you can see a fun time was had by everyone. If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of these events, don’t pass up the opportunity to meet vendors, local divers, great instructors, and try out all the cool gear.
