This fellow popped up a literal stone's throw from my front door (Whangarei Harbour, NZ). They are neither common nor uncommon, we do see them from time time, but not usually so far up the harbour. Not my photo, borrowed from Facebook. A claim of 5 metres. Not sure I believe that, but certainly not a fish I want to meet during a low visibility harbour dive.

Wow..... Great pic... as a Northern California ab diver I never saw what we affectionally refer to as "The Landlord" but pretty sure that they've seen me. Totally agree with you on not wanting to meet that beautiful fish on a low vis dive........or at dusk or dawn......or on rent day!
