I think I will be in the DR this December. We are going to be in Cap Cana. which is not too far from Bayahibe. Anyone know anything about the diving in Cap Cana (far eastern shore of the DR, south of Punta Cana)?
Question How is Scuba diving in Punta Cana Dominican Republic?

Cap Cana is in the Punta Cana area, so the diving isn't any better. Bayahibe is about 50 minutes from the Punta Cana airport. We stay at Secrets Cap Cana, it is about 20 minutes from the Airport and is the most northern resort in Cap Cana. Scuba Fun, the dive shop I always use provides free transportation to and from your resort in the Punta Cana area. I know several people that have done this. Scuba Diving Punta Cana - ScubaFun

Customs sucks.
Taxi driver was a complete moron. I even had coordinates to where I needed to go.
Airport personnel suck. Two girls want $40 tip for doing their job of pushing a wheelchair a short distance.
Got hasseled on the beach, by a guy trying to drag me into his grocery store. I'm on vacation, wtf would I go grocery shopping.
Diving is meh, at best.
If you want to risk VD from the many women from NYC on vacation there, it could be fun.
I'll only give the DR a second chance from a cruise ship itinerary. It's not a worthwhile week.

Hookers are lovely though. And not a scam like Mexico or Phillipines.
Food was cheap, and good. Best cigars in the world.
If you want to mostly relax, and do a couple lameish dives, it might be OK.
But if you just want to dive dive dive, and sleep in the jungle, Roatan.
