How is the job market for Dive masters in utila? And part time job's for extra cash in resturants or bars?:mean:

Chris:
Go to the word "search" at the top of this page. Type in Utila, and you can read all the past threads.
There have been several things in the past, posted that might help you. Probably emailing some of the local dive operators there could help. You'll find all the names in the past threads.
Good luck!

the majority of dive shops on utila do not pay dm's they have so many in training they don't have to pay but you do get to dive alot. there are jobs in restaurant and bars i don't know what the imigration laws are like right now, they were trying to clamp down when i left last may.

Ok I realize that to find a job as a divemaster in Utila is difficult, but does anybody know what other options there are in the carribean or central america for divemasters? Or is it worth doing an assitant instructor to find worl in Utila?

My girlfriend and i are going to do at least our divemasters in Utila, probably at either Bay Islands College of diving or Utila Dive Centre, and then hope to find some sort of cash source for a month or two.

You may find work in one of the bars or restaurants in Utila but the reality of it is that there are so many instructors on the island that paying dm or ai jobs are very difficult to come by. An out of work instructor would gladly work as a dm. Also with so many schools on a small island there is always an abundance of divemaster trainees who can do the bull work.
When i managed B.I.C.D. we did not pay dm's the instructors would pay them for doing fun dives with newly certifed students but you would be hard pressed to make a living at it.
