A man has tragically died after encountering difficulties in the water while out diving with friends on King Island.

Police say the 43-year-old interstate visitor was pulled from the water near Johnson Rock around 11:30am.

His friends attempted CPR, however he sadly died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
