Diver drowns Wednesday in Carolina Beach
CAROLINA BEACH -- A diver drowned at a Carolina Beach marina Wednesday afternoon.

Detective Scott Hettinger of the Carolina Beach Police Department said officers were dispatched around 12 p.m. Wednesday to Joyner Marina at 401 Marina St. in reference to a diver in distress.

Hettinger said the diver and a co-worker were cleaning the bottom of boats in the marina, and the co-worker made the distress call to 911.

First responders began life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.

Hettinger said the initial investigation has not revealed any signs of suspicious circumstances, but the investigation is ongoing. He said the department is awaiting an official cause of death from the medical examiner's office.

Hettinger said the name of the deceased diver will not be released until next of kin have been notified
