My computer is constantly flashing between compass and watch/dive mode. It's6 monhs old and done 40 dives.

Mine has never done that. The manual does state that when on the surface and the battery voltage drops below 2.50v all DC operations will cease and the display will revert to watch time and compass. Sounds like a low battery. Can you take it back to the dive shop where you bought it?
I have an OC-1 and the original battery crapped out very quickly, like yours is doing. Called Oceanic and they replaced it FoC. Did not have the issue you are having, but given the battery indicator is on, I would suspect that first.
