Female visitor drowns while scuba diving off Koloa
KOLOA —A 59-year-old Oregon woman died while scuba diving in waters off Poipu on Wednesday morning.

Her name has not yet been released.

Officers said the woman was scuba diving with a tour group at around 9:30 a.m. when she showed signs of distress. The diver was brought into the tour boat unresponsive and bystanders performed CPR while the boat returned to shore for assistance, according to county news release.

Koloa firefighters met the tour boat at Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor and continued CPR. Medics then transported her to Wilcox Memorial Hospital where the woman was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is pending.

This is Kauai’s ninth drowning of 2016.
