Shipwrecks/2009 Update

Just a short note to update you on this year"s event. This update contains information not found on our flyer or web site.

I"d like to remind everyone that you can still get the early registration discount if you register on-line or postmarked by February 28.

By now, all previous attendees should have received our flyer in the mail. If you haven't, it means you have either moved, or we do not have a complete address for you. You may update your mailing address at:

Mail List Request

As you know, our display area is very limited. As in the past, several speakers will have tables set up in the main cafeteria for book, video sales, etc. We have once again offered space to a number of nonprofit diving related groups in the halls at no charge. To date, we have confirmations from: Save Ontario Shipwrecks, Great Lakes Historical Society / Maritime Archeological Survey Team, Ontario Underwater Council, Cleveland Underwater Explorers, Ontariodiving.com, Welland Scuba Park and we expect to add a couple more to the list.

As of today, we have a total of 67 door prizes (over $8000.00 value) including items such as dry suits, clothing, dive charters, hats, magazines, Bonaire hotels, dive lights, and more. The list is growing every day. Each attendee will receive one door prize ticket when they sign in. No tickets are sold and no monies made on door prizes.

The Fort Erie Underwater Recovery Unit has once again applied for a lottery license to run a 50/50 draw at this year's event. 50% to the Lake Erie (Eastern Basin) Mooring Project, 25% first prize, 15% second prize and 10% third prize. Last year, the breakdown was $804 to the project and $420, $241.20 and $160.80 in prizes. Tickets will sell for 3/$5.00 CDN.

As in the past, attendees will be given a goodie bag as they check in. It will contain flyers and information from nonprofit groups and dive charters. If you have an upcoming event or a charter that you would like to promote, please feel to contact us. We require 500 copies by March 24th. There is a $20 charge for this service. To keep the show as non -commercial as possible, there are restrictions as to what can go in the package. Please check out the following link for more information

Crossing the Border

Although new regulations came into play January 31, 2008 we are still in an 18 month transition period where you can still cross without the proper paperwork. The information listed below was taken from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection web site. CBP.gov - home page

Beginning January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens 19 years and older who enter the U.S. at land and sea ports of entry from within the Western Hemisphere will need to present government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license as proof of identity, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate, or a passport. Children age 18 and under will be able to enter with proof of citizenship. Verbal claims of citizenship and identity alone will not be sufficient to establish identity and citizenship for entry into the United States.

Note: Children age 18 and under will need to present a birth certificate, naturalization certificate or a passport to enter the U.S. Travelers who do not have the appropriate documents may be delayed while CBP officers attempt to verify their citizenship and identity. They will also be given the informational tear sheet explaining the new procedures. The intent of this transition is to raise awareness of the change, educate travelers, and allow ample time for travelers to obtain the necessary documents

For anyone planning on crossing the border this summer however, please note that the new regulations will be in effect June of this year

US/Canadian exchange rates

Due to the extreme fluctuations between the CDN & US Dollar {+5 to -25%} in a short period of time, we have found it hard to fix a firm US price. Our US pricing represents an approximate 15% discount but we strongly suggest you check with a bank or currency exchange, as it may be beneficial for Americans to pay in Canadian Dollars either by mail or by using our on-line registration. Our on-line registration ticket sales include a $2.00 service charge to cover transaction fees but may still be less expensive, as the exchange rate offered is normally within 1% of the current bank rate and ensures the fairest price possible.

Shipwrecks/2009 Shirts.

We will once again be offering a limited number of commemorative Shipwrecks/2009 shirts:

T-shirts (med, large, x-large) - $17.00 CDN
T-shirts (2x-large) - $20.00 CDN
Golf shirts (sm, med, large, x-large) - $27.00 CDN
Golf shirts (2x-large) - $30.00 CDN
Hooded HD Sweat shirt (large, x-large) - $32.00 CDN
Hooded HD Sweat shirt (2x-large) - $ 36.00 CDN

US pricing for 50/50 draw tickets and clothing will depend on the exchange rate that day.

Our 15th annual event looks like one of our best ever. Hope to see you there.
