We returned to Farnsworth Bank yesterday for our third trip there aboard the Giant Stride in a month. Visibility was down and the schools of baitfish were gone, but it was fun trying out my 8mm lens. I found a large Felimare californiensis and tried to get it onto my stage in spite of the fact that I didn't have a macro lens on the camera. Big mistake! The nudi wouldn't stay on the stage so I returned it to the reef. I then dropped my stage and couldn't see where it fell. Dana Rodda saved the day. She saw it sail into a crack at 94 feet. It was a foot out of reach. Dana took my camera while I removed a fin to coax the stage closer. It took two attempts, but I came away with everything I began the dive with. The sighting of the day belonged to Walter Marti, who saw a three-foot Green Sea turtle. I can't wait to see his video.
