hello everyone,

My name is Scott, and I am married to javamama. We are new to diving and are planning a trip to key largo, fla. in Sept.

I'm writing to get your opinion of the dive outfit Silent World and the motel Hungry Pelican in key largo? Has anybody had any experience with these folks. This will be our first open water dive outside the quarry where we have trained.

Also how is the property at Hungry pelican motel?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Scott

While I've never stayed at the Hungry Pelican, I do know a little bit about it. It is a basic motel, don't look for luxury. I dived with Silent World back in early '98. They were an OK operation, but they didn't particularly impress me either. A friend of mine has dived with them more often, she won't return because she doesn't like going to the Christ statue on every trip. It's an interesting statue, but after 2 minutes you're finished looking at it and there's nothing else there.

Scott,
I was just having this conversation with my business partner.
We think a lot of new divers do not realize that September spells HURRICANE in Florida, or at least tons of rain.
Of course this is not always the case. But if you're going to spend your hard earned cash on a trip, can you wait till November or December for the Florida area?
They are getting pounded right now in the panhandle.
I just hate for anyone to miss dives because of the weather.
I'm sure I'll get posts now saying people went in September with no problems. And I'm sure that's true. But if there are going to be any problems that is the time they usually happen.

Thanks Walter & Natasha,

I can only leave my job in the fall or spring. We also have other plans to visit old friends in Fort Lauderdale. So if the weather turns bad, we got a plan B.

I check out some of the recomendations too.

Thanks,
Scott
