Hi,

We'll visit the philippines for 3 weeks in April/May. Nothing booked yet, but plan is to build around dives, so from Anilao, Puerta Galera, Coron to Palawan. Finding the divesites is not the problem, but what we look for is hotels with off beach snorkelling (so accessible without boat). We love to switch between diving and snorkelling and just want to be in the water as much as possible. Any tips would be welcome.

No good snorkeling in Anilao and most of PG. The things to see mostly are below 30ft/10m. I've heard you can snorkel from the beach if you stay in the resorts of San Antonio Island, Verde Island, or on the Cove side, but there is not much of the diving industry there. I think there is a phase separation - snorkeling resorts catered by and for the Filipinos and dive centers mainly run by expats for tourists.

But that being said, you can do 3 or even 4 dives per day for a very reasonable cost in PG and that qualifies to "be in the water as much as possible" in my book.

Those are the same requirements for us too, we spend 4-5months in the Philippines , scubadiving everyday would be too hard on us, therefore snorkeling is such a pleasant addition, relaxing and refreshing. So.Leyte was the paradise for both scuba and snorkeling, the shore line was full of shallow vibrant coral gardens, we would spend hours day and night drifting along the shore and never got tired and we would scubadive in between, unfortunately Odette wiped most of the shallow corals although the area is still a nice diving destination. We are now in Central Visaya, here the shallow corals are deeper 5 meters and finding the macro a bit challenging 😀
