Personally I prefer the 5-finger flash (with just OK for >= 2000). But the point about the 3-finger gloves is well taken, though if you assume an open hand is 500 psi, it still works with less granularity. I can also deal with the fingers on the arm as 1000s, and fingers up as 100s. I dislike any method that requires 2 hands.
 
my instructor taught us 1 finger for 100 psi but we had a person who was wearing mitts so we discussed it further before the dive and came up with each tap on your arm was 1000 psi and then did a chop in the air for 100 psi so 2200 psi would of been two taps on arm with two hand chops
