The show I saw was in Canada. The logs were lost as they floated them down river to the mills years ago.
 
Here in Alabama, back in the 20s and 30s when the hydroelectric dams were being built they topped timber and tied the tops down in windrows. Some of the guys have been salvaging logs and selling them for as much as 3 or 4 thousand dollars a log. The minimum temperature that they would have been preserved in would be in the 50s F. However at the depths that they are finding them the acidity of the water is such that wood boring worms would not live. It is a lucrative market but requires a large investment in equipment.
