In today's crazy world, I of course didn't at all think that you were being facetious.

Actually, I think that being able to text a buddy would be terrific.

We already have a language of hand signals to communicate information, and on tech dives I always carry wet notes in my pocket to communicate anything too complex for a hand signal. That's hardly controversial, I even found wet notes in the GUE equipment list. Wouldn't this be a lot better?

All kidding aside, I suppose it would be quite attractive for those who do extensive deco stops--so would any sort of phone entertainment I would assume.

Didn't James Cameron already show us the importance of being able to do this? We can be talked through--um, texted through--defusing the nuke, thereby saving ET. And then we can text our goodbyes as we wait for death to come, before ET swims over and saves us and the world.

Might be hard to do with dry gloves on.

"All kidding aside," I can think of numerous practical applications for this beyond addressing deco boredom.
