Hi Guys,

Nocturnal Lights have invested heavily into putting together adapter and arm systems for a very effective video light system for nearly all the video lights in the market.

Lately we added a "housing application" so you can choose your housing by manufacturer and go from there. The housing application guide will include instructions on how to build your own combo and give you information on what adapters are suitable for your housing.

A lot of housing MFG either make light systems that are not nearly as good as the housings that they make, or some other ones are just ridiculously expensive. We have put together some effective packages that won't do too much damage to your bank account.

Below are instructions on how to put together your video light package. There are simply way too many combinations of packages that we can put together for different housings so it’ll be the best for you to take a few minutes to review the instructions. You may also contact us if you are having trouble putting the package together.

Step 1: Video Lights Nocturnal Lights Underwater Video Lights

We offer the SLX 800i and the SLX 800xi video lights. The 800i retails at $450 and the 800xi retails at $530. Both lights use self contained battery packs so you don't have to to deal with mounting battery pods and umbilical cords while you're shooting. The 800i offers 2-8 hours of burn time while the 800xi offers 4 to 16 hours of burn time, meaning that the lights will burn at max output for 2/4 hours before slowly running down up to 8/16 hours.

Both lights have lenses that are 60 or 90 degrees for video and the 12 degree beams are also included in case you choose to use them as dive lights while you're not shooting. The light outputs a whopping 800 lumen at 5500k, allowing you to shoot vibrant videos. Single video light setups may be sufficient for recreational shooting but we always recommend a dual video light setup for professional shots. We also offer a quadruple setup for videographers who are shooting wider-angle shots where 1600 lumen is not enough. It'll be up to you to choose which video light setup is most suitable for you. If budget is a concern you can always start with one or two and add to your setup if you feel necessary.

Step 2: Arms Ball joint and flex arm setups for underwater housings.

We offer two types of arms. The ball joint arms use 1" ball clamps to hold the arms and the lights. You can use a combination of them to configure your light system. Usually a single or a double 5" or 8" arm is used for videos while longer arms are used for strobes. It is very sturdy and gives you maximum flexibility.

The flex arms have interlocking segments so you can twist and bend the arm into different shapes. Each arm has a tension string in the middle and will fully support the weight of our video lights without feeling flimsy. It’s both affordable and easy to manage.

Both arms are very effective and you may choose either one of them based on your own personal preference. All of our 1” ball adapters will work with any 1” ball adapter systems in the market.

The arms will need to attach to your hosuing or a tray. The ball joint adapters will then need to be clamped down to a ball joint that sits on a tray or a housing while the flex arm adapters will slide over and lock on to a ‘t-base” adapter.

Step 3: Adapters

Shopping for video lights can be quite dreadful because most housing MFGs try to make everything proprietary so you have to use their lights. We have put together a list of housings and adapters so you can easily see how you would connect our lights onto your housing. The menu can be found on the left hand side of our online store: Nocturnal Lights - Manufacturer Dive Lights, Underwater Focus Lights, and Underwater Video Lights for regular and technical divers, underwater photographers, and underwater film makers

We have ball joint adapters and t-base adapters available for most if not all of the full size underwater housings. Each page has detailed descriptions of how lights can be attached to your housing. If the information is not clear you can always contact us for help.
