Virgin Gorda trip report with pictures

I went to the British Virgin Islands with my wife, and met up her brother and his wife, her sister, and another sister in-law. The six of us rented a house on Mahoe Bay, where the snorkeling was good (lots of fish), but not stellar (not too much interesting coral). We flew to St. Thomas, and took the ferry from there to Virgin Gorda (this ferry route only runs a couple of days a week). We rented two cars from Mahogany rentals. We have stayed on Virgin Gorda a couple of times before. There were only three of who were diving, and the rest spent time snorkeling, hiking, visiting the baths, and going on hikes. I dove for 4 days of 2-tank morning dives with DiveBVI. They are a good, professional organization, and I would recommend them highly. Overall, the whole trip was wonderful. A slight disappointment was that visability was sort of mediocre for much of the week. It did not affect the overall quality of the dives, but it made wide-angle photography considerably more challenging, which was a shame. The Little Dix Bay resort was closed (and will be closed for quite a while for renovations). This was a shame, as we like to have drinks at the wonderful bar there, but we opted for Coco Maya instead, a restaurant with a great location, excellent food, and good drinks, too. We also cooked about half of our dinners at our house.

I would say that it was pretty good, i.e., better than Roatan but not as good as Cozumel. The shots above do not show many fish, but there were certainly lots of places with the usual Caribbean suspects, grunts, hogfish, tangs, and similar stuff.
