I've taught a number of technical cources (not diving related) and the number one thing I want from my students is participation.
By participation, I mean being engaged with the material, asking questions, and expanding on the questions of others, bringing their own experience and being willing to share, broadening the material for the class.
Generally, I time my presentations to last about two thirds of the alloted time, so I depend on my students to participate and flesh out the course.
It's analgeous to live theater vs a movie. My students make my course better. Without their participation, I might as well show them a video.
