Fun article, but a perfect example of the curse of so much DIY writing - someone who writes up instructions without actually understanding what they are writing about, let alone trying it! If you look at the photo, it shows a proper shallow water helmet, with lead weights and flat glass But diagrams leave out the weights and shows curved glass, which I doubt would be as easy to find as the directions assume!

There's no reason for the dual bellows either. One would do just as well if not better. If the goal is to provide a steady flow of air, two bellows driven alternately by a single lever is the way to go.

Shallow water helmets are undeniably cool. The diving museum in Islamadora on the keys has a terrific collection of them well worth a stop.
