I am very selective about the buddies I choose as a function of the dive site for safety and sanity. I am especially careful with tech dives. I invite only specific buddies I know are experienced and comfortable with the profile.

Your liability is the same as sharing a ride to or from a dive site in a car. BUT, if you take ANY form of compensation for the ride on your boat ( split fuel cost, dinner, etc.) you are considered to be " for hire " by the USCG and
then are required to be licensed as a Captain. As a Captain you are liability and responsibility is much greater than than of the average Joe out for a boat dive with his friends.
