ABC IslandsAruba, Bonaire and Curaçao make up these wonderful islands just north of South America. A wonderful climate accompanied with some wonderful diving make these a "must visit" for everyone.
Thanks Harrie, my apologies, maybe I mis-read. It is crazy how they report things here on Bonaire. I know in the states, we do rely for some type of accurate reporting from our newsworthy outlets such as CNN, FOX, MSNBC and local news channels. I am sure it is the same in most places in the world. The different news stations may have varing levels of ideas and may sway from liberal to moderate to conservative, but at least they always get the facts correct. I don't know who is reporting what, who is saying what, but like you I agree, you don't know what to believe. One day you hear 30 days the next you hear 7 days...
I'm just keeping my eye and ears open, and hoping and praying they find Marlies and that her friends and family can have some peace.

Most of the regular local users of BonaireTalk have a job in (or own) a tourist-related industry. Sometimes I feel BT is just an advertising community for Bonaire. The real problems on the island are put under the carpet. Any complaints on local police-force, security, the Government, infrastructure, are not openly discussed. I am a member of BT for years, but it is getting worse and worse on that board.
I think EVERYBODY has the right to know as much as possible about this Marlies-case, locals (in tourist-industry as well as not in that industry), Makamba's, Penshonada's, potentially tourists from USA or Europe, possible workforce from South-America, a.s.o. EVERYBODY. I think it is necessary to get a good view about what kind of things are going on here. Still, despite what is happening now here, Bonaire is still one of the safest places to be. Everywhere there are creeps walking around.
When I am heading for a country, and would find-out later that the information about important issues (safety for instance) was kept behind, I would be very angry, and perhaps never go back to that place again. Honesty is always the best guide, and yes it can be hard or hurt sometimes....
When BT closed the thread and only wanted to post under censorship of the moderators I decided to stop posting there on this subject. I don't accept censorship in any form. This is a free world, and I want to have the right to speak freely. That's why I went to this board, just to inform the people that want to know as much as possible what is going on on Dushi-Bonairu.
It is a pity (a shame?) that the police informs us so very little. I think a more open aproach would also lower the barriers between locals and Makambas, as the control of the policeforce is now in Makamba-hands.
Keeping back for the parents of Marlies? Come on, they are on the island, they read all the papers, get informed by police and locals, a.s.o. I think it gives them warm feelings to know that there are so many people who want to help, or just wanna know what is going on. Also: Publicity helps. Let us NOT make the mistakes that were made the first days of the famous N.H.-case in Aruba, all evidentials could disappear the first days, although here, and now on Bonaire, is it really better?
Remember one thing, if you don't want to know about these things, there is an important button on your computer, it is labelled: <<Del>>. Push it, and everything is OK, but don't push it for others, let them decide for themselves........
I haven't heard anything on the case itself, yesterday (Saturday) and this morning, just vague rumours.
If there is something more trustworthy, I will be back.
Fact: Bonaire Talk does not allow people to speak freely about what is happening on Bonaire. The moderators openly and often edited and/or deleted posts.
Let us not continue down this path of what is likely to turn into a BT bashing. What I want to get out of this thread is only INFORMATION about this case and others relating to Bonaire as in 1 week I visit your beatiful island.
Let's only use this thread to share information on Bonaire. If we want to compare SB to BT or other forums, let's open a new thread.

Steve, you have a good time on Bonaire. If it were my island, things would be different. I'm just a visitor too.
I think that when you allow various allegations against BT Mods, and then suggest that a simple request for an example of those allegations is inappropriate, then I must call censorship.
But what I really want to hear more about are those UFOs...
Yesterday-evening there were a lot of UFO's, leaving the island from around the harbour.
We saw them from Hato. Absolutely fantastic!
Other posters,
I agree, let us stop talking about the reason for these posts, and BT, and just keep this thread for information about marlies. I don't want to have to defend myself all the time. I think I was clear enough.
ModSeb:
I found out there were fireworks in the harbour, for the start of the 2008 Sailing Regatta. So sorry, no UFO's here.
If you want to see some, take a big joint, and look in your own brains....

Harrie,
Thank you for your efforts in keeping the community informed on what is happening with the investigation on Bonaire. You are right, there are creeps everywhere, but I have always felt safe on Bonaire and I love the people there. We are already planning our trip to Bonaire next year. As a result of this kidnapping, my wife won't be riding a bike around Bonaire anymore. You see, we stay at Buddy Dive, and she rides up toward the very area where this girl was abducted... She won't be doing that again. Once again, thanks for your unbiased efforts to keep us informed. I look forward to your next report. Maybe we can meet and have an Amstel next summer. Bob

Agreed! if you want to discuss the differences in boards then open a new thread. I am relly lookig for information here, not bashing and discussing what some people think is right or wrong. Now back on topic please.
Harrie i agree with Bob next time on island we'll have to get together for a couple drinks.
There are more reasons not to ride a bike on the island, especially in evenings, the loose dogs. There are way too many on the island, and they get active in the evenings. My wife (and a friend) got bitten half-a-year ago, nearly fatal. (See the thread in BonaireTalk under local items). The governement promised actions, but from my proposed actionplan of 8 points, they just started with one of the points, and actually I don't see many results, there are still more loose dogs here. You better take a walk on the island, with a car....... (This should have been another thread....)
Hi to all of you,
Please remember the OP had a post about a kidnapping, will you all stay on this topic. If you have some other points to make, open your own thread.
