Kidnapping on Bonaire

I just read this on bonaire talk about a kidnapping.

has anyone heard this:

Bonaire Talk: Dutch girl missing?

Amigoe.com - Amigoe English: 24 year old woman kidnapped on Bonaire

I really hope they find the lady ok, and the kidnapper. It is a shame that an island that has had hardly any violent crime has had this happen.

Kind of odd isn't it, now that you mention it, a blond young lady and in the same chain of islands?? that is a short flight away.

It sounds like two very different scenarios.

The latest is a stranger abduction via forcible kidnapping while bicycling down the street.

The Aruba case appears to have involved alcohol and/or drugs, and some acquaintances just met at a party.

How do you kidnap *anyone* on a motorcycle??? Let's see, she was forced onto the back seat of the motorcycle and was forced to hang on... this is very strange.

Natalie Holloway was the case on Aruba. She wasn't kidnapped either. (or at least not thought that).

she was drinking heavily and left the bar with 3 male strangers that were know to try to score with tourist local girls and also to use drugs.

Her death was somewhat "self preventable" if she had only known what she was getting herself into.

Now later in the posts there was a second attemped kidnappping of an 8 year old girl. She was able to get away and the perp was arrested. Man what is going on there. I really hope they catch the person or persons and put em away for a very long time.

It appears she has been found (see BonaireTalk) but there are still few details about her health or details about the incident!

They've made an arrest.

Arrest made in van der Kouwe case 26/09/2008 00:00

Police arrest a man for the recent disappearance of a Dutch woman on the Dutch Antilles island of Bonaire.

26 September 2008

AMSTERDAM -- The police in Bonaire arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of 24-year-old Dutch woman Marlies van der Kouwe.

The police released no information about the suspect except that he is from the island's capital, Kralendijk. However, a radio station on the island reports that the suspect recently served an eight-year prison sentence for sexual violence.

Two houses were searched in Kralendijk's Tera Kora district in connection with the arrest.

The Dutch woman, who works on Bonaire as a pharmacist's assistant, disappeared last weekend after a party. A witness said she was pulled from her bicycle.

apparently the police are investigating problems with how they are handling the case...

Quote:
Police investigates own handling in kidnapping case
25 Sep, 2008, 10:46 (GMT -04:00)

KRALENDIJK – Chief of Police of Bonaire John Schagen has ordered the Bureau Internal Affairs to investigate whether the police handled correctly when they received the first report on Sunday morning at two thirty, when people witnessed how Marlies van der Kouwe (24) was dragged off her bicycle, up to Monday afternoon when they started the large scale investigation. There is still no trace found of the Dutch girl, making the chances that she is still alive smaller by the minute.

Schagen: “Approximately at two thirty early morning on Sunday, employees of WEB immediately warned the police when they saw that a woman was taken on a scooter. A police patrol arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and recorded the statement of the witnesses. Only on Monday morning was the Criminal Investigations Department informed by the police about the incident. They then started the investigation and spoke to the witnesses. The National Police Force was informed on Monday afternoon around two o’clock, after which I informed the Public Prosecutor. We immediately started a large scale investigation that Monday afternoon. That same Monday I ordered the Bureau of Internal Affairs to start an internal investigation on the proceedings.” The family of Marlies van der Kouwe arrived on Bonaire on Tuesday evening and have been taken in by the police who will continue guiding the family. The family wishes to be left in peace.

The search for the young lady will continue with the help of the coast guard. The police also called in Stinapa to help in the search. The rangers of Stinapa are used to walking in nature and know the coastal waters of Bonaire very well. For the investigation, the police will get the help of three investigators of the National Police Force, three employees of the NFI and also extra capacity of the police force form Curaçao.
