Thumbs up UV Night Dives on Bonaire

I just returned from my tenth trip to Bonaire. Diving was great as usual, I was surprised at how great the reefs looked after Omar. Much much better than I had expected. I don't normally post trip reports, but I wanted to share one dive I had that was out...of...this...world! Bas Noij aka OB1 is doing guided UV night dives. He has special underwater UV dive lights, and a plastic cover that goes over your mask. It's like diving under a blacklight. Marine life that fluoresces is brought out in spectacular colors. You can't see fish or marine life that reflects back, aka big tarpon. It truly was the most amazing and fantastick night dive I've ever done. We didnt' take pics as you need a special cover for the camera lens.

here are some good pics that are fairly representative of what you see. It is TRIP!

    That is really cool!

We will be there in a month.

Who is giving these guided tours????

Not that I'm aware of, Bas gets his equipment in Miami (it isn't cheap) and the plastic lens that fits over your mask is specially made for masks.

It is well worth the charge of a guided night dive

I've gotten this effect in my aquarium with just a blue LED keychain light

    Fluorescing Frogspawn - Manhattan Reefs

I bet one could hack up an LED dive light and replace the white LEDs with blue ones
