From Diver rescued off Whale Beach - Emergency Services - News - The Manly Daily
A diver has been rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital after he surfaced too quickly off Whale Beach this afternoon and suffered the bends. Police said the man, an American tourist in his mid- to late-20s, was diving in 20m of water off Whale Beach about 4pm when he panicked and swam to the surface too quickly.
Other divers aboard the dive boat saw the man’s hands and feet were shaking.
The man was rushed to Careel Bay wharf, from where an ambulance took him to Careel Bay Oval.
A helicopter then flew the man from Careel Bay Oval to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.
Police said the man was a certified diver.
