Coast Guard hoists and medevacs injured diver | Coast Guard News

FORT MYERS, Fla. — An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater medically evacuated an injured diver 27 miles south west of Stump Pass, Sunday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg received a report concerning a 54 year-old female who suffered from breathing difficulty after diving. The diver was aboard a 35-foot recreational vessel with seven other people aboard at the time of incident.

A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the diver be medically evacuated by helicopter. Boat crews from Coast Guard Station Cortez and Coast Guard Station Fort Myers Beach were also diverted to the scene to assist the medevac.

The Jayhawk crew hoisted the diver at approximalty 1 p.m., and transported her to Lee Memorial Hosptial in Ft. Myers, Fla., for further care.
