Diver dies near Mendocino Sunday

A 55-year-old man died Sunday while diving in the Mendocino Bay.

The man was diving with a friend, when the friend noticed him face down in the water, according to Mendocino Fire Chief Dxxxx Hxxxxxxx. The friend pulled the victim out of the water and started performing CPR, while bystanders called 911, Hxxxxxxx said.

When firefighters arrived shortly before 4 p.m., the victim -- whose name has not been released -- was at the base of a short cliff, Hervilla said.

The fire department and other medical personnel continued CPR until paramedics arrived on scene. The victim was evacuated using a Stokes stretcher during a high angle cliff rescue, Hervilla said.

The patient had a pulse at this point, he said, but died in the ambulance while en route to the Mendocino Coast District Hospital.

The US Coast Guard also responded to the incident.

Sounds like they had just entered the water http://www1.pressdemocrat.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070403/NEWS/704030333/1033/NEWS01

"XXXX XXXX was in the water, preparing to scuba dive in Mendocino Bay when his diving companion noticed he was motionless and floating face down, said Sheriff's Capt. Kevin Broin.

"They were in the water for only a few minutes," he said.

XXXX, who had 15 years of experience diving, had a heart condition that may have contributed to his death, Broin said.

He'd had a heart attack two years ago, said his friend and diving companion, XXXX XXXXXX of Lodi."

thats really sad. if he knew he had a serious heart condition maybe he should of been more cautious, but im sure all of you know if you want to go diving your probably gonna go diving and not let much stop you. just a freak accident.
