The news story reported on two accidents but I am separating them...

1 abalone diver dead, 1 missing off Mendocino County Coast | PressDemocrat.com
In a separate incident Monday morning, a local man preparing to dive north of Van Damme State Beach collapsed and was washed into the ocean, Hervilla said.

The man's friends pulled him from the water and started CPR, but the man died at the scene.

The man was in his 60s and had a history of heart problems, Hervilla said.

Ocean conditions were rough over the Memorial Day weekend, Hervilla said.
