Sadly there was a death today at Casino Point Underwater Park. This afternoon rescue divers located and pulled the victim onto a LA County Baywatch vessel where life saving efforts were performed on scene and enroute to the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. The LA County Sheriffs Dept. is conducting an investigation at this time. Our prayers go out the the family of the diver.

We were there..Very sad day.. We were next to them on the wall. Two women dive buddies . While they were planning the dive we heard the one who passed ask if she should call her daughter :( The rest of what we heard is speculation. We were told that it was an out of air situation at 90 to 100 feet and she had only 6 dives. The young rescue (15-17) diver pulled her up after 17 minute under. Im waiting for Ken to give us the facts....

Just curious, but what were weather / water conditions like?

The accident accured about 10:30. The diver was diving off Casino point at the drop off at about 120 ft. He got tangled up in the kelp. I was there for 4 days and the weather was great. Sunday night the clouds came in and we had a little rain most of the night on and off.

The diver was found floating on the surface as I understand and after about 20 minutes of CPR he was pronounced dead. He was diving with a couple friends.

The kelp was laying low as I was told in the days preceeding this day but on the 5th it came to the surface and caused a mess. The point was closed after the accident.

It sounds like there was more than one incident, female OOA, and male tangled in kelp at 120'?
what a tragic weekend.
Thanks for the updates everyone.
Hoping we can learn more about these accidents.

BTW... If anyone knows who the younger diver is that tried to rescue her.. family and friends want to say thank you... thank you so much for your efforts, we are very grateful you were there and able to retrieve her from the water.

I was going off what I heard from the people on the point. They were still bringing her in and her companions were being questioned when I left. I did not know if it was a boy or girl at that point. As I understand she went missing until she was found floating. I heard this from a couple different people but it was very early in the rescue attempt.
